Start off 2024 Right

How does the saying go - “Early to bed, early to rise. Makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”? -Benjamin Franklin.

Start 2024 with NYC’s version of healthy, wealthy and wise on January 1st.

Healthy

Let’s be real, not a lot of people are going to bed early December 31st. Maybe you’re an earlier riser no matter the bedtime or (more likely) you’re still up from the night before. Start the year with a midnight run. Or jump in on the cold plunge health crazy for Day Plunge at Coney Island put on by the Polar Bear Club every January 1st.

Wealthy

Using the term a bit loosely. Wealth in terms of food and taking advantage of great deals. January 1st may feel a little rough if you’ve been celebrating all night and early morning. The old adage ‘hair of the dog’ means brunch of champions and a “wealth” of friends to join in the cam-misery, *cough*, camaraderie. Where to go:

  • Cafe Mogador - Classic Mediterranean menu
  • abcV by Jean-Georges - Creative vegetarian
  • Virginia’s - Classic American brunch food
  • Molyvos - Greek comfort food with items like shakshuka and avgolemono chicken soup
  • Boqueria - Tapas/spanish with “Free Flow Beverages” of bottomless (90mins) mimosas and Sangria and unique items like Breakfast paella.

And let’s not forget those post holiday deals. If you’re not tired of shopping yet, head out to 5th Avenue and take advantage of the sales as shops are trying to unload their holiday stock.

Wise

Feed your brain with beautiful visions and words. Museums are open and a perfect place to start the year. MoMa continues the conversation of environmental impacts from and because of development with their “Emerging Ecologies” exhibit. Close out the holiday season by visiting the 1000+ piece Origami Tree at the The American Museum of Natural History. Or discover the roots of America or your own at Ellis Island Museum.
Alternatively, find a cozy cafe with that book you’ve been trying to get through all year and get lost in the pages.

Wishing a healthy, wealthy, and wise 2024.
